Located in the northern part of Georgia in the United States, Lake Lanier is one of the most popular destinations for fishing trips. With additional water being fed from the Chestatee River allowing numerous other types of fish to join the ones already in this man-made lake, it's perhaps not surprising that this stretch of water is so popular. When it's at its fullest level, Lake Lanier can boast over 39,000 surface acres of water, which explains why so many fishermen enjoy coming here for their trips. With over 1100 kilometres of shoreline stretching between five counties, it's an easily accessible area to get to as well, making it an ideal solution for both the weekend and serious angler. The variety in fish in the lake is what makes this waterway so appealing. Trout fishing is accommodated for here, with not only the common brown trout being freely available, both rainbow and brook trout can also be found, thanks to the cold waters that make their way from the bottom of the lake. If bass fishing is more your angle, then Lake Lanier caters to those needs as well. Not only will you find the most common of bass in these waters, but two of the four kinds of temperate bass can be found in the lake itself, making it an extremely convenient one-stop shop for bass fishing. Many serious anglers enjoy sport fishing, where there is a bigger challenge to catching the fish due to its size or fighting ability. With striped bass frequenting the waters of Lake Lanier and in excellent numbers, this particular type of fishing can be enjoyed in the peaceful surroundings that this stretch of water has to offer. The different water temperatures that can be found at Lake Lanier also add to the experience, especially if it's a more challenging fish you wish to undertake. Depending on the ambient temperatures, which can range from the coldest days in winter to the hottest in summer, the striped bass will lie at various depths. If it's colder water, then expect the fish to lie deeper where there is less likelihood of a fluctuation in temperature. A spring and early summer trip will find the fish at their highest point, usually just under the surface, making for a relatively easier catch. With the facilities on offer, such as a water park and a golf course, as well as comfortable accommodation in the guise of either hotels or lake houses, the surrounding area around Lake Lanier makes for a pleasant experience, too. Even if you have a family and they don't share your enthusiasm for fishing, there's so much more to do that everyone can enjoy a vacation there, leaving you with the reason for going in the first place – excellent fishing.

Natural cures during cold and flu season
: Five natural cures Before continuing with this article, it must be stressed that the following is for general information only and is not intended in any way to be a substitute for professional medical advice. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health professionals if you have any concerns about your health—particularly during the flue season. These natural cures may not be applicable to everyone and could be detrimental to your overall health if not discussed with your physician as to possible interaction with any prescribed medication you may be taking. Some of the time-honored natural cures that have been used for centuries to prevent colds and flu, reduce symptoms, or shorten the duration of colds and flu are showing promising results in research studies. There are a variety of herbs, supplements, and food remedies. Listed below are five that have received favorable results. 1. Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Kefir, and Yogurt Kimchi (pronounced kim'-chee) is a Korean spicy fermented side dish that has been getting a lot of press since the BBC published a report by scientists in Seoul, Korea who found that 11 of 13 chickens infected with the avian flu started to recover after they were fed an extract of kimchi. It is important to note that there have been no published reports of its effect on people affected with the new strain of avian flu. The key ingredient is thought to be a natural organic acid called lactic acid, that's also found in sauerkraut, milk, yogurt, kefir (a yogurt-like effervescent beverage), meat, and beer. In fact recent reports also show sauerkraut being used to treat chickens. 2. Elderberry Another one of the natural cures that has attracted a lot of attention is the berry extract from elderberry (Sambucus nigra) which contains more than one compound that's active against flu viruses. One of the many ways it works is by preventing the virus from attacking cells. A study found a 50% reduction in the severity and duration of symptoms in adults and children after taking an elderberry extract. Health food stores carry elderberry juice, syrup, and capsules suitable for adults and kids. Only commercially prepared elderberry products made from the berry extract should be used, because the fresh leaves, flowers, bark, young buds, unripe berries, and roots contain cyanide and can result in cyanide poisoning. This is definitely not a do it yourself natural cure that you can prepare! 3. Ginseng The herb ginseng, used in Asia for over 2000 years, made headlines recently after a double-blind placebo-controlled study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that a ginseng extract reduced the number of upper respiratory infections by 25% during a four month period. The treatment group took two 200 mg capsules of a ginseng extract every day for four months and reported reduced symptoms, duration of infections, and infection recurrence. Ginseng can have hormonal effects. Some studies suggest that ginseng can boost estrogen levels, so it should not be on the list of natural cures for women with breast cancer. Ginseng should also be avoided by people taking blood sugar medication or antidepressants known as MAO inhibitors, by children, people with high blood pressure, or by pregnant or nursing women. 4. Astragalus Astragalus doesn't come with nearly as many warnings as ginseng. The dried root of astragalus is a popular ingredient in traditional Chinese herbal formulas. It's now used in the United States to strengthen the immune system and prevent colds and flu. Herbalists recommend it as an immune tonic for people who tend to catch colds frequently. Preliminary research has shown astragalus can stimulate immune function in humans. It can be found in capsule form at health food stores or as a dried root in Chinese herbal shops and some health food stores. Because of its mild taste, the dried root can be added to soups. The dried root is light yellow and the size and shape of a tongue depressor. A typical daily dose is 9 to 15 g of the dried root, which equals about 3 to 4 slices. Traditionally in Asia, people took astragalus soup once a week throughout the winter. The dose is individual, and people with increased exposure or compromised immune systems may require more. Note: Herbalists do not recommend taking astragalus if you're already sick. 5. Ginger Another on the list of popular natural cures: A cup of hot ginger tea is not only invigorating , it is also a great cold fighter. Ginger contains compounds that have been found to be active against rhinoviruses, the most common group of cold viruses. Ginger is a diaphoretic, meaning it fights colds by gently raising body temperature and promoting perspiration. Note: Ginger is also a blood thinner. Talk to your doctor before taking it if you are taking blood thinners.
Project management success with the top 7 best practices
Managing a project can be daunting. Whether planning your wedding, developing a new website or building your dream house by the sea, you need to employ project management techniques to help you succeed. I'll summarise the top 7 best practices at the heart of good project management which can help you to achieve project success. Define the scope and objectives Firstly, understand the project objectives. Suppose your boss asks you to organise a blood donor campaign, is the objective to get as much blood donated as possible? Or, is it to raise the local company profile? Deciding the real objectives will help you plan the project. Scope defines the boundary of the project. Is the organisation of transport to take staff to the blood bank within scope? Or, should staff make their own way there? Deciding what's in or out of scope will determine the amount of work which needs performing. Understand who the stakeholders are, what they expect to be delivered and enlist their support. Once you've defined the scope and objectives, get the stakeholders to review and agree to them. Define the deliverables You must define what will be delivered by the project. If your project is an advertising campaign for a new chocolate bar, then one deliverable might be the artwork for an advertisement. So, decide what tangible things will be delivered and document them in enough detail to enable someone else to produce them correctly and effectively. Key stakeholders must review the definition of deliverables and must agree they accurately reflect what must be delivered. Project planning Planning requires that the project manager decides which people, resources and budget are required to complete the project. You must define what activities are required to produce the deliverables using techniques such as Work Breakdown Structures. You must estimate the time and effort required for each activity, dependencies between activities and decide a realistic schedule to complete them. Involve the project team in estimating how long activities will take. Set milestones which indicate critical dates during the project. Write this into the project plan. Get the key stakeholders to review and agree to the plan. Communication Project plans are useless unless they've been communicated effectively to the project team. Every team member needs to know their responsibilities. I once worked on a project where the project manager sat in his office surrounded by huge paper schedules. The problem was, nobody on his team knew what the tasks and milestones were because he hadn't shared the plan with them. The project hit all kinds of problems with people doing activities which they deemed important rather than doing the activities assigned by the project manager. Tracking and reporting project progress Once your project is underway you must monitor and compare the actual progress with the planned progress. You will need progress reports from project team members. You should record variations between the actual and planned cost, schedule and scope. You should report variations to your manager and key stakeholders and take corrective actions if variations get too large. You can adjust the plan in many ways to get the project back on track but you will always end up juggling cost, scope and schedule. If the project manager changes one of these, then one or both of the other elements will inevitably need changing. It is juggling these three elements - known as the project triangle - that typically causes a project manager the most headaches! Change management Stakeholders often change their mind about what must be delivered. Sometimes the business environment changes after the project starts, so assumptions made at the beginning of the project may no longer be valid. This often means the scope or deliverables of the project need changing. If a project manager accepted all changes into the project, the project would inevitably go over budget, be late and might never be completed. By managing changes, the project manager can make decisions about whether or not to incorporate the changes immediately or in the future, or to reject them. This increases the chances of project success because the project manager controls how the changes are incorporated, can allocate resources accordingly and can plan when and how the changes are made. Not managing changes effectively is often a reason why projects fail. Risk management Risks are events which can adversely affect the successful outcome of the project. I've worked on projects where risks have included: staff lacking the technical skills to perform the work, hardware not being delivered on time, the control room at risk of flooding and many others. Risks will vary for each project but the main risks to a project must be identified as soon as possible. Plans must be made to avoid the risk, or, if the risk cannot be avoided, to mitigate the risk to lessen its impact if it occurs. This is known as risk management. You don't manage all risks because there could be too many and not all risks have the same impact. So, identify all risks, estimate the likelihood of each risk occurring (1 = not likely, 2 = maybe likely, 3 = very likely). Estimate its impact on the project (1 - low, 2 - medium, 3 - high), then multiply the two numbers together to give the risk factor. High risk factors indicate the severest risks. Manage the ten with the highest risk factors. Constantly review risks and lookout for new ones since they have a habit of occurring at any moment. Not managing risks effectively is a common reason why projects fail. Summary Following these best practices cannot guarantee a successful project but they will provide a better chance of success. Disregarding these best practices will almost certainly lead to project failure.

Spring cleaning tips washing walls
: Washing the dirty walls around your house can be a huge chore. Not only is it a time consuming project, it’s physically exhausting. If you want to spiff up every nook and cranny, washing walls requires an enormous amount of reaching, stretching, contorting, and bending to clean off the layers of dust, dirt, grime, cobwebs, finger smudges, and/or greasy soot that have accumulated. Luckily, there are a few tricks that can make it easier. Cleaning Solutions Your choice of cleaners is very important and should be based on the type of wall that you are cleaning. A solution of clear ammonia and water works very well. It has a terrible odor, but ammonia is cheap and has superlative cleaning capabilities. Nevertheless, if you can’t get past the smell, there are other options. Most painted walls can be cleaned with warm water and a gentle, non-sudsy detergent. Still, you should always test the cleaning solution that you will be using on an inconspicuous area of the wall. Make sure that the solution is removing just the dirt, not the paint. Cleaning Strategy When washing walls, dripping and streaking is inevitable. To avoid rewashing something that you have already cleaned, you should always start at the top of the wall and work your way down. Don’t forget to catch corners, trim, and baseboards as you go. To get to those hard to reach places, use a sturdy stepladder or a small portable ladder. Make sure that you choose a ladder that is both stable and appropriately sized. If you will be working in a stairwell, use a ladder that is made for uneven surfaces. Try to center the ladder directly in front of the wall that you will be washing. Over reaching or leaning too far to one side could cause you to lose your balance. Cleaning Tips Here are some final tips that can be used to make the job of washing walls a little easier. • Rid the walls and baseboards of cobwebs and dust bunnies before you begin washing. • If you are using ammonia or another strong-smelling cleaning solution, make sure the room is well-ventilated. • Change your cleaning solution often. When you are washing walls, the water gets dirty very quickly. • To avoid streaking, wipe the walls with a dry towel after they have been cleaned. • To avoid ruining the paint job on your walls, stay away from abrasive cleaners and steel wool. Use a toothbrush for small stains that need gentle, but abrasive action.
Bulwark flame resistant wear
Bulwark is the leading manufacturer of flame resistant wear in the US. It produces a host of firefighting and fire-retardant clothing items which can resist flames up to high levels of intensity. The clothes of Bulwark use the Nomex technology of preparing fire-resistant clothes. These clothes have a sheet of a material known as meta-aramid underneath. Meta-aramid is an extremely powerful flame resistant material that is very close to Kevlar. This material gives a good degree of resistance to both heat and flame, and when fixed underneath the clothes, it provides a good deal of protection to the wearer from potential fire hazards. In fact, Nomex is the same material that has been made mandatory for pilots and motorcar racers to protect them to a great extent during accidents involving explosions. Bulwark flame resistant clothes have gained a good name wherever protection from fire is needed in the workplace. The Bulwark flame resistant wear caters to all kinds of clothing requirements, such as bib overalls, full bodysuits, gloves and many other varieties. In addition, Bulwark manufactures coats, coveralls, jeans, jackets, shirts and vests and even gear that is resistant to both rain and flame. It also manufactures cheap fire-resistant hoods and knit caps that are used by people working in places that usually have high temperatures. One of its interesting and bestselling products is the high visibility flame resistant vest which is used very popularly by mine workers and people who have to work amidst traffic. These vests have fluorescent colors that ensure good visibility to the wearer. At the same time, they are made of Bulwark flame resistant material that ensures fire protection. Now let us see some of the most significant Bulwark flame resistant products. The Bulwark Flame Resistant Coverall is Bulwark's most fire-resistant product. As the name suggests, it covers the person from top to toe, just like the astronauts wear. The coverall has Modacrylic sheets on the inner side for thermal and fire insulation. The outer side is made of a blend of cotton, nylon and twill. The structure of the coverall is very convenient because it has an ankle to shoulder full zipper that is glued on to it. That makes it easy to get in and out of the coverall. The zipper is glued onto the sides and not sewn on, because thread is destructible in a fire. The Bulwark Flame Resistant Overall is also structured in the same manner as the coverall. This is a bib overall, that means it has a front piece that covers the abdomen. The flame resistant material is the same as the coverall. The overall also has a lateral zipper, and it has five pockets, which makes it ideal for people who need to work with a lot of tools. There are several types of Bulwark flame resistant jackets, shirts and parkas that have only structural differences in them. The flame resistant design is the same in all of them. They all have a zipper that runs throughout the front, and they have up to four pockets for ease of carrying tools. For all their high defensive properties in case of a fire of high temperature, the Bulwark flame resistant wear is priced quite modestly. You can get a Bulwark flame resistant coverall under $250, while a Bulwark flame resistant jacket could be got at less than $160. These prices are very economical compared to the other brands available in the market.
